Interesting Runways Of The World.

Here are some of the most interesting runways of the world. Some are so steep which gives even a well-trained pilot a hard time & some are so short that it looks like planes wont even stop on the airstrip.

Courchevel Airport - Steepest runway:

Courchevel Altiport is home to an extremely short uphill runway with a length of 525 m (1,722 ft) & a gradient of 18.5% with a vertical drop at the end.

Longest Runway:

A runway length of 18,045 ft. of Qamdo Bangda Airport located in Tibet, makes it the longest runway of the world.

Second longest & the widest runway of the world:

With a length of 16,405 feet the runway of Ulyanovsk Vostochny Airport is the second longest public use runway in the world. And its also the widest, with a total width of about 344 feet.

Other notable runways:

Ramenskoye Airport has a length of 17,726 ft runway. Its located near the town of Ramenskoye & is a military installation. This runway is not generally made available for use by civilian aircraft.

Though theoretically the runways at Edwards Air Force, United States are miles long (39,060 ft, 11,905 m) in any given direction but are dry lakebeds with no conventional construction done. Its also a military installation like Ramenskoye Airport & the runway is not generally made available for use by civilian aircrafts.

Designate longest runway in the world:

The entire length of the Richardson Highway of Alaska can be designated as a airstrip if the suitation arises, making it the longest runway in the world running 368 miles (562 km) from Valdez to Fairbanks.

Saba's Yrausquin Airport -World's Shortest Commercial Airport Runway:

This is the tiny runway one has to land on & take off from!
The runway at Saba's airport is just brief 400 meters long that leaves no room for any mistake when one lands there, as at each end of the runway there is a sheer drop into the water.
If one sees this small runway from the plane, they may think whether they can really stop on this tiny runway.
Yrausquin Airport is the only airport on the Caribbean island of Saba, in the Netherlands Antilles.
