How Would You Handle This!

Just think of it, can you handle this happening around you once every four-five years? These are the photos taken by Sven Sandberg during the summer of 2005 in Flogsta/Hamberg, a district in Uppsala, about 60 km north of Stockholm, Sweden.
It seems this sort of a thing happens once every four-five years here, though it appears every summer in more moderate quantities. As it's a big colony, which means in the long run there wont be enough food for most of them, the population is kind of self-controlled.
Its looking like these things have a special liking for the bikes. For us it's looking like something from the classic Sci-Fi movie, silk like substance everywhere.

Caves of Crystals.

Places where Superman could feel at home. Mexico's Cueva de los Cristales contains some of the world's largest known natural crystals - tanslucent gypsum beams measuring up to 36 feet (11 meters) long & weighing up to 55 tons.

Modern-day mining exposed the natural wonder by pumping water out of the 30-by-90-foot (10-by-30-meter) cave, which was found in 2000 near the town of Delicias. "There is no other place on the planet," García-Ruiz said, "where the mineral world reveals itself in such beauty."

Rainbow Vegetables & Fruits.

Scientists have been developing amazing variants of vegetables & fruits which are said to taste the same as the normal varieties, but in return make our food more colorful.

Rainbow Vegetables & Fruits
Consumers are looking forever new experiences on their dinner plates and color features very large in their desire for different things.
While traditionalists may not like the unusual colors, it is not the first time that plant growers have changed the appearance of vegetables.
Until the 17th century most carrots eaten in Europe were white, yellow or purple. The orange pigment was added by Dutch plant growers looking for a way to celebrate Holland's royal family.

Purple potatoes (Blue Potatoes or Delta Blues) truly are naturally purple! All blue potatoes are similar to the Purple Potatoes & have the very same powerful antioxidant that gives blueberries their brilliant color.

And according to what she has read: 'they don't have much of flavor other than the heat.' Its up to you to decide you want to eat it or not but one thing for sure these look just great preserved in a jar of oil in your kitchen!

Artificial Reefs.

Artificial reefs have proven to be an economic boon in communities around the state & the world. Its strongly believed that the artificial reefs help in sustaining tourism & work to improve marine resources. Artificial reefs could raise fish population.
Artificial reefs are man-made structures, which can include cars or ships, concrete blocks, sandbags, offshore oil platforms that attracts marine life. Though the original artificial reefs, of course, were with the ships.

There is a proposal for a 108-acre artificial reef at the coast of 'Ewa (Hawaii ) with a massive expansion of the 1.1-acre reef replacement required for developer Haseko's permit to build the Ocean Pointe Marina.
If the proposed reef gets through, then Haseko will be spending about $150,000 to work with the Department of Land &Natural Resources to build an artificial reef which should provide more protection for the fish.

The ex-Oriskany went down 24 miles off the coast of Pensacola to become an artificial reef. The 888ft carrier took 37 minutes to reach the bottom.

Japan also plans to build its first artificial reef to attract the surfer tourists & make it as famous as Shonan. It will be built on sand, which will be safe for the beginners. It is proposed to be built six meters below the water surface & will measure 50m by 4.5m.

Artificial Reefs: Oil & Gas platforms:

The use of retired & unused oil & gas platforms for reefs has proved to be highly successful. As removal of these can be an issue which involves logistical problems like tearing them down & transporting them back to the dry land will also result in loss of valuable reef & fishery habitat. The proper environmental friendly solution would be to turn them into artificial reefs. It provides about 2-3 acres of living & feeding habitat for thousands of underwater species.

Thailand created its reef from the trucks. Nearly about 200 old city trucks were laid off the coast of the Pattani & Narathiwat provinces to make an artificial reef. It's a contribution towards Her Majesty the Queen's project to help develop the marine ecology of the region.
'Under a project initiated by Thailand's queen, everything from concrete pillars to old rail cars have been put at 47 sites. There are now about 43 species of fish living around these reefs.'

Muto Vegetables.

Muto Vegetables
Interesting.
The intangibility of miraculous natural phenomenon that occur in remote, exotic places is where I depart as a collector and creator of objects of simulation.

The subjects of my focus on natural, especially biological, partly supernatural events, while its concrete visualization addresses the theatrical, or monumental: another reinterpretation of history referring to the initial presentation of findings, new discoveries. The scale and materialization of the work directs the viewer's way of perceiving and experiencing it.

My latest Project Mutatoes, a collection of non-standard fruits, roots and vegetables, addresses the extent to which we control and shape the appearance of nature through lawful standards and commercial selection.

Petri Art.

These petri art was made by Eshel Ben-Jacob from the School of Physics and Astronomy, Tel Aviv University. The beautiful landscape architects in these petri dishes are actually colonies of tens of billions of microorganisms. The dazzling pattern reflects the underlying social intelligence of these bacteria. The patterns are the evidence of the cooperation as they try to survive using the pattern formation mechanism. The colors are the artistic additions to enhance the beauty of the art.

Underground Urban Farm In Japan.

Pasona the amazing underground urban farm in Tokyo has an underground rice and vegetable field. Here are some details:
An underground rice and vegetable field has been planted beneath an office building in Tokyo's Otemachi business district. This urban farm - that used to be the vault of a major bank - is maintained using computer-controlled artificial light and temperature management. It was brought into being by a personnel company as a means of providing agricultural training to young people who are having trouble finding employment and middle-aged people in search of a second career.
New Use for Former Bank Vault
The hi-tech vegetable patch, called Pasona O2, is located in the Otemachi Nomura Building in the Tokyo district of Otemachi, where many major corporations have their headquarters. The building, which has 27 floors above ground and five below, used to be the home to Tokyo Life Insurance and Resona Bank (formerly Daiwa Bank). But these firms have left, and office space in the building is now leased to several different companies. This project was launched by the temporary staffing agency Pasona Inc. When Pasona moved its headquarters to this building, it decided to lease the second basement floor - formerly the Resona Bank vault - and turn it into a vegetable garden.

Sea To Market - Journey Of A Pearl!

Sea To Market - Journey Of A Pearl 1
Pearls are formed inside certain bivalved mollusks. As a response to any external stimuli, the mollusk creates a pearl to seal it off.
The mantle of the mollusk deposits layers of calcium carbonate in the form of the minerals aragonite or calcite (both crystalline forms of calcium carbonate) held together by an organic horn-like compound called conchiolin. This combination of calcium carbonate and conchiolin is called nacre, or as most know it, mother-of-pearl. The commonly held belief that a grain of sand acts as the external stimuli is in fact rarely the case. Small particles or organisms enter the animal when the valves are open for feeding or respiration. In cultured pearls, the stimuli is typically a cut piece of the mantle epithelium, together with processed beads, the combination of which the animal accepts into its body.

We do agree that giant jellyfish do exist, such as the ones that sometime back appeared off the coast of Japan, but those were about the size of a washing machine, not the size of a truck.
