There is a proposal for a 108-acre artificial reef at the coast of 'Ewa (Hawaii ) with a massive expansion of the 1.1-acre reef replacement required for developer Haseko's permit to build the Ocean Pointe Marina.

Japan also plans to build its first artificial reef to attract the surfer tourists & make it as famous as Shonan. It will be built on sand, which will be safe for the beginners. It is proposed to be built six meters below the water surface & will measure 50m by 4.5m.
Artificial Reefs: Oil & Gas platforms:
The use of retired & unused oil & gas platforms for reefs has proved to be highly successful. As removal of these can be an issue which involves logistical problems like tearing them down & transporting them back to the dry land will also result in loss of valuable reef & fishery habitat. The proper environmental friendly solution would be to turn them into artificial reefs. It provides about 2-3 acres of living & feeding habitat for thousands of underwater species.
Thailand created its reef from the trucks. Nearly about 200 old city trucks were laid off the coast of the Pattani & Narathiwat provinces to make an artificial reef. It's a contribution towards Her Majesty the Queen's project to help develop the marine ecology of the region.
'Under a project initiated by Thailand's queen, everything from concrete pillars to old rail cars have been put at 47 sites. There are now about 43 species of fish living around these reefs.'
'The DNR Artificial Reef program maintains 45 reef sites in estuarine, coastal and offshore waters. The sites are marked with yellow buoys to assist boaters in locating and using artificial reefs'.
The world's first artificial reef designed to develop corals, the ecoreefs, are made of ceramic stoneware that is ideal for the settlement of corals and other invertebrates.
